ESA Certification ESA ECSS-Q-ST-70-38
 

The operators course in surface mount technology increases the participants' theoretical and practical knowledge of different production technical methods for SMD-production and the requirements according to ESA ECSS-Q-ST-70-38. When the participants have passed a practical and theoretical test an ESA-approved certificate is issued with a validity of two years.

The foundation of the course is ESA specification ECSS-Q-ST-70-38: 'High reliability for surface-mount and mixed technology printed-circuit boards'.

The basis of the practical part of the course is assembly and soldering performance and the factors which affect quality and reliability.


Among other things the following is focused on:

  • ESA ECSS-Q-ST-70-38 requirements
  • PCB layout
  • Substrates and laminates
  • Requirements for soldering
  • Soldering methods
  • Benefits using SMD
  • Examination
Participation in the course requires a valid ESA certificate in Hand-soldering. The participants must also bring an approved sight test which meet ESA's requirements.

The course is designed for engineers in production, quality, and construction as well as operators who must - or would like to - be able to document knowledge of SMD.
