ESA Inspector Certification ECSS-Q-ST-70-08 / ESA ECSS-Q-ST-70-38


The course qualifies the participants to interpret the specifications in ESA specification ECSS-Q-ST-70-08 and ECSS-Q-ST-70-38  in order for them to inspect solder connections according to the specification and make the right decisions. When the participants have passed a practical and theoretical test an ESA-approved inspector certificate is issued with a validity of two years.

The foundation of the course is ESA specification ECSS-Q-ST-70-08: 'Manuel soldering of high reliability electrical connection' and ESA ECSS-Q-ST-70-38 : 'High reliability for surface-mount and mixed technology printed-circuit boards'.


Among other things the course focuses on the following both practically and theoretically:

  • Requirements for assembly and soldering according to ECSS-Q-ST-70-08 and ESA ECSS-Q-ST-70-38
  • Identification of quality and reliability of solder connections
  • Identification of quality and reliability of assembly
  • 100 percent inspection
  • Recording of failures and defects
  • Quality assurance
  • Examination
Participation in the course requires a valid ESA certificate in Hand-soldering. The participants must also bring an approved sight test which meet ESA's requirements.

The course is designed for engineers in quality and other employees who work with quality control.
