Cleanliness test

The cleanliness test measures the surface cleanliness of an item by measuring the amount of Ionic residues from the item surface. Ionic residues can normally be related to the assembly/soldering process or external contamination sources.

During the cleanliness test the ionic residues will be dissolved and the concentration will be measured in relation to the item surface area (component surface area/PCB(A) surface).

A cleanliness test can tell if items, e.g. received from sub-contractors, will comply with the company requirements for cleanliness before or after assembly.

Cleanliness test can also be used for process inspection and control e.g. on assembly and soldering processes.

Cleanliness test can, for example, be used for:

  • Inspection and process control of assembly and soldering processes
  • Evaluate local or global contaminations on units
  • Stay aligned towards own company requirements for surface cleanliness
