The ECSS-Q-ST-70-07, ECSS-Q-ST-70-08 and ECSS-Q-ST-70-38 standards have been superseded and replaced by ECSS-Q-ST-70-61.

On the operator certification in surface mount technology (SMT), certification is done according to ESA (ECSS-Q-ST-70-61) requirements for assembly including production technical methods and the factors that affect the quality and reliability. When the participants have passed a practical and theoretical test, an approved ESA certificate is issued, which is valid for two years.

The basis for the certification is the ESA and European space specification ECSS-Q-ST-70-61: 'High reliability assembly for surface mount and through hole connections' (Replaces ECSS-Q-ST-70-08C).

The practical part of the certification is based on assembly and soldering and the factors that affect quality and reliability.
